So what is Asian American Awareness Month?

It's a nationally recognized month where we celebrate the history, identity, and heritage of Asian Americans. It's actually in May but because there is no school at that time, we decided to celebrate it now.

Who is we?

We are the Asian American Student Alliance (AASA). We are an umbrella organization under which 12 different Asian affiliated organizations fall such as Chinese Student Alliance, Sig Beta Rho Fraternity, Vietnamese Student Alliance, etc. Asian American Awareness Month is organized by the board of AASA and promoted by the member organizations.

So how do you celebrate?

You celebrate by recognizing the history of Asian Americans. We have come a long way from the Chinese migrant workers that built the rail system of this country or the Filipino laborers who found home in New Orleans. The hard work and risks our parents, grandparents, great grand parents took have brought the current generation of Asian Americans into a whole new era. An era where the American dream is finally within the grasp of average Asian Americans. Our theme for Asian American Awareness Month is thus the 'New American Dream.' One in which Asian Americans can aspire to whatever heights in whatever fields they are most passionate.

We have therefore organized a series events throughout this month with the purpose of appreciating where we are and addressing some the social issues that continue to persist.
